James Fenimore Cooper And Nathaniel Hawthorne Essays -

James Fenimore Cooper And Nathaniel Hawthorne Numerous extraordinary individuals have told history. Accounts of how we advanced from the little provinces to the nation we are today have been passed down to each age. We were given the possibility of our triumphs, battles, catastrophes and experiences of history through narrating, and nobody recounts the experience of history like James Fenimore Cooper and Nathaniel Hawthorne. They composed with such an energy of history weaved with experience that it cleared you away into their reality. All things considered, that is the thing that makes an exemplary immortal, the going down of history. Let us start with James Fenimore Cooper. James Cooper was conceived in 1789, and in 1790 his family moved to Cooperstown. The remainder of his siblings had passed on and Cooper was the leader of the family; he assumed on the liability of thinking about his family. In 1803 he entered Yale and was ousted in 1805 for a trick. In the wake of serving on the Veruvius for three and a half years, he left the naval force and wedded Susan Delancey. They had five little girls and two children. In 1826, he added the Fenimore to his name. In any case, it was coincidentally that James Fenimore Cooper turned into an author. He took a challenge from his significant other to compose a superior book than the English one he had been perusing to her. Safety measure was distributed in 1820. Despite the fact that I totally comprehend why it won't be on anybody's end table, it gives us some significance to understanding Cooper's works. We realize that he basically watched the habits and ethics of Europe during a seven-year voyage through England and afterward upon his arrival to America, he stayed a safeguard of American standards, yet in addition a burning pundit of American Practice. The focal thought of Precaution (1820) was guardians setting aside more effort to guarantee the best possible marriage of their girls. Here, I accept he uncovers an early enthusiasm for social subjects and good standards. The absence of the standard is the thing that at last leads Jane to get her sentiments injured when the man she cherishes escapes with another, youthful beneficiary. In spite of the fact that the characters resemble inert cardboard, Precaution's topic faintly portends what is to come straightaway. On the off chance that a peruser was to peruse just Cooper's initial fiction and maybe a volume of his social analysis, they are probably going to leave with the sentiment of Cooper having a few mixed up ideas. Relatively few would see the blend of experience and sentiment and books of social reason. Be that as it may, when he distributed The Spy his notoriety started as an American writer. His next novel, The Pioneers was distributed in 1823. It started the sage where Cooper has still stayed an American Genius. The Leatherstocking Tales. The exertion of the five books unmistakably sets Cooper among the best writers in American Literature. He delivers culture's connection to the past; to the battle of accomplishing a feeling of chronicled structure. At that point, national essential held a compelling intrigue, yet the leatherstocking stories is offset with a barrier of chronicled coherence. He understood that America's self-governance suggested an opportunity and tricky future. He starts with depicting America as liberated from and bound to the past. He likewise attempts to offer a doublevision, as it were, purposing accommodating opportunity and restriction too. Cooper was greater at composing emblematic history than sentiment. It was Cooper who made the American Hero legend that is as yet a major piece of our abstract present reality. While Cooper depicted almost no authentic certainty , or recorded truth in his view relies upon how you feel towards his compositions. In any case, Cooper stays outstanding amongst other verifiable scholars of his century. English Essays

Othello by William Shakespeare - 1086 Words

Throughout the tragedy of Othello Shakespeare does an impressive job of quickly introducing and manipulating his main characters. His talents are no less when it comes to the creation and development of Emilia. Though it appears that Emilia is both a loyal and obedient wife, her actions speak much louder than her words. When Emilia betrays the sisterhood within the play of Othello much is revealed to the reader regarding her character. Through close reading and interpretation the reader may come to the realization that Emilia possessed a dangerously low self-esteem, never honestly loved someone wholeheartedly, and ultimately, acted out of jealousy of Desdemona. Low self-esteem is a dangerous mental health disorder. If Emilia truly had love in her heart for her dear Desdemona, she would have returned the handkerchief to Desdemona after seeing the immense amount of pain it caused her in Act IV scene ii and iii. The lack of love portrayed by Emilia can only be attributed to not only to her verbally abusive husband and the lack of affection shown by him, but also perhaps to her inability to love another person, as she is never shown true, forgiving, honest love by another human herself. Many arguments have been made pertaining to the jealousy of both Othello and Iago; however, it could easily be argued that Emilia’s jealousy in the play is a significant factor in the deaths of both Desdemona and Othello. As previously discussed, Emilia was never shown kindness or love by Iago, unless he hoped to gain something from such moments of affection. As Emilia was denied attention and love from her husband on a daily basis, she was forced to observe how her lady Desdemona was lusted and loved after by not only Othello but also he r very own husband, Iago. Emilia watched as Desdemona was fawned over by Rodrigo, kissed and held by her husband, Othello, and complemented by Cassio and Iago, while Emilia received no attention in return. In an A.C. This economic interdependence is in part due to the importance of international trade. But it is also in large measure do to the ever-increasing importance of companies that do business internationally. This paper examines the current situation of international business, presenting a survey of the range of such businesses and outlining both the external contexts in which such companies conduct their business as well as the internal organization that is needed for a company to be able to function efficiently in an international context.

Australia Day Essays - Australia Day, Australian Patriotism

Australia Day Australia Day Australia Day is a day set aside to commemorate the arrival of Captain Arthur Phillip and the First Fleet at Sydney Cove on the 26 January 1788. On the day of his arrival, Captain Arthur Phillip declared the area that became the colony of New South Wales to be a British possession. This landing started the first permanent European settlement on this island continent. Australia Day, January 26, is celebrated with a public holiday and celebrations in every State. The choice of the 26 January as the day of celebration for all Australians has been queried and argued by many people. That the day might symbolize invasion, dispossession and death to many Aboriginal people was a notion 'unfamiliar to the average Australian until the later half of this century.' The Editorial in The Sunday Age of the 23 January 1999, arguing for a change of date, stated that January 26 'can never be a truly national day for it symbolises to many Aborigines the date they were conquered and their lands occupied.' Involvement of the Indigenous community on Australia Day has taken many forms - forced participation in re-enactments and mourning for Invasion Day, as well as peaceful protests through the city streets. Personally, Australia Day does not mean a lot to me. As I was not born in Australia and only received my Australian citizenship in 1995, I have never really seen the significance of the public holiday; however one thing I do believe in, is that the date should be changed. The government must find a day on which everyone can feel included, in which everyone can participate equally, and can celebrate with pride our Australian identity. I believe acknowledgement of the past is the first step towards reconciliation. That includes recognition that since white settlement (or invasion, as indigenous people experienced it) the Aborigines were dispossessed of their land and the life that was lived on it. The consequences of these experiences, I believe are felt in every aspect of life. It is surely quite obvious that we can predict terrible social consequences if a group of people have not been thought of, or treated as human; if their families and communities have been torn apart and if they have been dispossessed of their lands and cultural traditions. Surely this is clear in the profile of Australia's indigenous population. And while the historical aspects of the 26 January will always be acknowledged, there must be a greater awareness of the need to celebrate modern Australia - a land of diverse ethnic makeup and a land working towards reconciliation with its indigenous people. A change of date for Australia Day, would give it a greater significance to myself, as well as the wider community.

The News Entries Should Each Refer To Something Important That Is The News Entries Should Each Refer To Something Important That Is Currently Happening In The World – Coursework Example News Entries Obama hits 50% approval rating in Poll The news article is about a recently released poll results in relation to the rating of the United States of America president Barrack Obama. The polls were conducted by new Washington Post-ABC News poll in December. The current survey ratings are considered as the highest since a similar poll was conducted in 2013. Thus, the polls indicated that president Obama’s rating had hit 50%. This was considered as a relief to the Americans who are keen in how the president will address the key issues that affects them as a state. The polls were conducted as a result of voters granting Republicans authority over the senate and an increased GOP majority in the U.S. House. According to the polls the ratings of president Obama improved considerably as a result of perceived good economic improvements. In addition, the poll reflected a further sharp divide among the Americans along Democratic and Republican lines. However the article gave more hope of the two sides of the political divide to overcome their political differences and pave way for political stability and tolerance in the United States. It was therefore evident that President Obama’s ratings had greatly improved since November 2014 as a result of the president’s zeal in resolving such issues as immigration and climate change within the context of United States. According to the polls the ratings of president Obama could further improve in future if he successfully addresses various issues that affect the Americans. In addition, the unity and political stability among the Republicans and Democrats is crucial in the American politics (David, 2015). David, Jackson, Obama hits 50% approval rating in poll. Sarbanes Oxley and its Influence on the Finance and Information Coursework

Sarbanes Oxley and its Influence on the Finance and Information Technology - Coursework Example One reason for its significance is its scope along with the material shift it signifies in the balance of federal and state regulation of corporations. Historically, substantive regulation of corporate procedure and governance has been primarily the province of state regulation, while the federal securities laws have regulated disclosure. (Klimko, May 2004) The second reason is that SOX seeks to improve investor confidence by tightening government regulation of the accounting, reporting, and corporate governance practices of public companies. Many of the Act's provisions require the SEC to adopt implementing rules, and many rules have been adopted since the Act became law. (Klimko, May 2004) In this respect, positive changes are recorded in corporate auditing controls and compliance procedures. The Act also established the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board to regulate accounting firms who perform audits on the financial statements of publicly held companies. The board's mission is clear: to tighten accounting standards and restore confidence in the profession. Subject to direct SEC supervision, this body also is responsible for disciplinary action--everything from investigation to significant fines--against any company found in noncompliance with the Act. (Longnecker, 2004)As is generally the case with governmental intervention in the affairs of business, Sarbanes-Oxley has triggered many unintended side effects. Most experts agree that it has changed several facets of business, including the concept of the executive seat; the way honest, hard-working CEOs interpret their roles; and the methods scandal-weary boards use to operate and make decisions moving forward. (Longnecker, 2004) Further, the uncertainty surrounding the legislation's impact on auditing, financial reporting, executive loans, etc. has had a chilling effect on operations in boardrooms across the U.S. Leading decision makers at companies are, in many cases, so intently focused on legislative issues that they have been distracted from fully focusing efforts on their business' primary operations and creating shareholder value. Additionally, it is not just the CEO and CFO who are being asked to certify financial records and take on additional risks and responsibilities. Although not specifically mandated by Sarbanes-Oxley, many companies are r equiring certifications of financial results by their division presidents, department heads, and other senior management in an effort to comply with corporate governance and controls. As the process continues to filter down through the ranks, simply conforming with these laws could end up costing shareholders more than they ever thought possible. In essence, the ripple effect of Sarbanes-Oxley very easily could take businesses from a place of under regulation to one of overregulation, which can be just as dangerous for a variety of reasons.

International Business Economics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

International Business Economics - Essay Example ts as neighboring countries overlooked there selfish restrictions and focused on a rather mutual beneficial ground in exchange of resources (Zhang, 2012). Furthermore, regional economic integration draws its attention from global economic integration in that they both envision and harvest same benefits. They establish free trade areas where member countries engage in free exchange of resources between themselves. This promotes trade as goods within bloc regions are available and affordable. On the other hand, the member countries are independed to formulate trade policies with non member countries. Long term benefits of free trade areas are creation of customs union and establishment of a common market (Zhang, 2011). A recent study reveals that regional economic integration has significantly improved economic status of developing countries. This is evident as removal of economic restrictions has not only expanded job opportunities within member countries due to free movement and exchange of labor but also created a flat ground where a common understanding between member countries has been established to promote political consensus. According to Zhang (2011) regional economic integration has its advantages, just as it promotes trade; it leads to trade diversions as member countries trade more with each other than non member countries. In essence it means that trading will go on despite if the partner is expensive or inefficient just because they belong to the same economic bloc. It has resulted in creation of trade barriers between member states and non member states. Moreover, production process can shift to member countries with cheap labor and workers may migrate to gain access to good employment opportunities. These sudden shifts can result in increased taxation of resources of member countries. Lastly with continuous discussions and agreements within the flat ground countries may feel that they are giving up more of their economic and political right just

Group Dynamics Essay Example for Free

Group Dynamics Essay Trait approach- a trait is something we are born with. Certain characteristics have certain traits and these characteristics may make one player better suited to captaincy than another. Traits or personalities will affect performance and players in positive and negative ways. It can affect performance positively because if a person has a strong, slightly aggressive and determined personality then they can give the team an extra drive to win the game. However someone of this personality can get over aggressive if the team is losing therefore lowering other players morale and maybe causing arguments. Behavioural approach- this suggests that leaders display certain behaviours. This is different to trait in that behaviours are learnt rather than something we are born with. Players, managers and coaches who lack certain skills can watch others and pick up new skills and techniques. This will mostly have a strong positive affect on performance because if you are learning new skills then technically you are improving. On the other hand the new skills that are learned could not be very effective for a team/individuals style of play. Interactional approach- this combines trait and the environment influences. It looks at the need for different behaviour and leadership styles dependant on the characteristics of the group and the situation. If you have both type A and type B personalities on the pitch then this will have a positive affect on performance because you will have someone who can psych the team up and add some aggression to the team (type A) but you will also have someone who can clam things down and relax the team (type B). Stages of group development Forming- this is the development of relationships within the group. This usually involves a player assessing where they feel they fit into a group structure based on other players strengths and weaknesses. It also gives player the opportunity to see if the belong in that group. If a player fits into a team well it will have a positive affect on performance because it will raise the morale of both the individual and the team. However if the player finds that he/she isnt fitting into the team then their level of performance is likely to be low. Storming- sometimes involves conflict within the group as individuals attempt to establish their position and role in the group. It may involve confrontation between the leader and the player until different roles are established. This is more likely to have a positive affect on performance as players will be battling for positions therefore there will be a harder work rate from the team. On the other hand players may feel threatened and pressured by new players so they may be nervous in their performance incase they lose their position. * Norming- once the structure has been established the group gains stability and becomes cohesive. Players start co-operating and work towards their common goal. This is extremely positive on the teams performance because they are becoming more cohesive meaning that they will work better together and the team can become more successful. Performing- this is the final stage and involves all the players working together towards their common goal. Each individual accepts their role and supports other group members accordingly. Again this is very positive for the teams performance because by this stage the team will be both task cohesive and socially cohesive. It will bring great success to the team as players will be both mentally and physically prepared with each other.

John Winston Lennon :: Essays Papers

John Winston Lennon "You make your own dream. That's the Beatles' story, isn't it? That's Yoko's story. That's what I'm saying now. Produce your own dream. If you want to save Peru, go save Peru. It's quite possible to do anything, but not to put it on the leaders and the parking meters. Don't expect Jimmy Carter or Ronald Reagan or John Lennon or Yoko Ono or Bob Dylan or Jesus Christ to come and do it for you. You have to do it yourself. That's what the great masters and mistresses have been saying ever since time began. They can point the way, leave signposts and little instructions in various books that are now called holy and worshipped for the cover of the book and not for what it says, but the instructions are all there for all to see, have always been and always will be. There's nothing new under the sun. All the roads lead to Rome. And people cannot provide it for you. I can't wake you up. You can wake you up. I can't cure you. You can cure you." ~John John Lennon was known best for his music, but in addition to that he was a philosopher, artist, visionary, social leader and most importantly a common man with a dream. John Lennon was born October 9th, 1940 in the town of Liverpool, England. His father abandoned him at the age of two. Three years later he was also abandoned by his mother. He was raised primarily by a woman John affectionately called, â€Å"Aunt Mimi.† Later in his life, John reestablished a relationship with his mother only to lose her again when she was killed by a drunk off-duty police officer. As a teen, John formed a band called the "Quarry Men" with boys from his High School. After a performance, one of the members, brought his friend Paul McCarthy to meet John. After hearing Paul play he immediately asked him to join his band. Later Paul brought George Martin into the group and soon the band that would later take the world by storm, was born. One of the so called "5th Beatles" the best friend of John, Stuart Sutcliffe, left art school, at John's urging and joined the band.

Individual Food Intake Essay

After using the food assessment tool at www.choosemyplate.gov I found that my daily intake of food was not sufficient for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Many of my goals were not achieved or were overachieved. This assessment revealed an imbalance in my eating habits. Like many Americans I am on the run and constrained by time. Going to school and working fulltime often forces me to eat quickly and make hurried choices. Often my choices are not in my best health interest but rather based on what is fast. When I have time, I tend to try to make better eating decisions but this is not sufficient for a good diet. In accordance with the Food Guide Pyramid I fell short in many areas of necessary consumption and went over in other areas. For the three day period I went over in grains (14.5 oz.) and over in proteins (10.5 oz.). I was insufficient with vegetables (1 cup), fruits (3/4 cup), and dairy (1 cup). What I found disturbing was that the bulk of the items I went over on was not balanced across three days but was instead committed on one to two days of the tracker. This means that on one day I had reached limits. This could be seen clearly on the third day and specifically with regard to lunch and my numbers jumped dramatically. I believe that I need to reshape my diet around the six classes of nutrients. The six nutrients include: 1. Water 2. Carbohydrates 3. Proteins 4. Fats 5. Vitamins 6. Minerals Each of the six nutrients is necessary in varying degrees in the body. Using the Food Pyramid I can identify the levels of nutrient intake and then  design my diet in accordance with balancing these numbers. For example, I eat a banana each day but this only provides me with a portion of the fruit intake I need and thereby cuts down on the vitamins and minerals I receive. By increasing my fruit intake I can increase this number but this is only part of the solution. I need to add more variety of food which will better encompass the wide range of nutrients needed. For example, strawberries and blueberries could be added to my diet and this would increase antioxidant intake as well as vitamins such as C. It is not just fruit intake that would need to be altered in this way; vegetables and meats also need to be examined. The intake of green vegetables would help to increase vitamin A, foliate, and iron, among other essentials. By expanding my varieties of foods I can incorporate this into my diet, as well as the elimination of certain types of foods could be used to increase nutrient intake such as removing the fast food burger in lieu of leaner fish which contains higher levels of Omega 3 and better quality proteins. Leaner meats that do not require heavy cooking also require less energy for the body to process and provide more useful calories. By modifying my diet in accordance with the Food Pyramid, I believe I can become healthier. The key is to determine the different foods that I will need to incorporate into my diet and to find the quantity that balances my caloric intake. For this I will need to do some research because I still need my diet to be somewhat convenient as well as nutritionally balanced. I believe it should also be mentioned that the level of fats that are taken in should be monitored as well, because almost a third of my diet was empty calories which had no nutritional value. There was also a very high sodium intake and my saturated fats were over the limit. These issues present many long term concerns which need to be addressed. This diet failure also explains my feelings of fatigue and my propensity for illnesses. My body has simply not been receiving the nutrients and levels that it needs to properly function. By watching these numbers I should be able to increase energy and make sure that my future health is strong. I also need to watch what I consume because my mother has had colon cancer, so the healthier I eat the  chances are less that I will contract that cancer. Hallyu and Cultural Commodities: South Korea’s growth of pop-cultural exports In the years following the collapse of Asia’s economy in 1998, South Korea turned to alternative exports to assist in both the restructuring of the nation’s financial strength and its reputation in international markets. As a result, pop-cultural exports such as films, television dramas, pop music and celebrities associated with these forms of media discourses have found growing popularity in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan; as well as many other East and Southeast Asian countries. This growing popularity of pop-cultural exports has proved to be a tool in constructing a contemporary national image and encouraged the emergence of the ‘Korean Wave’. According to Huang (2009) ‘Hallyu’ or the ‘Korean Wave’ refers to the â€Å"...popularity of South Korean culture in other Asian countries† however, with the increased availability of digital media and the increase of social networking, the definition of Hallyu has recently grown to inclu de Western Societies. The emergence of Hallyu came out South Korea s economy collapsing during the 1997-1998 financial crisis in Asia, when GDP plunged and caused a turbulent period of financial insecurity within the public sector.
